Reflexology Aftercare Advice

The following advice and recommended aftercare steps are intended to help you maximise the benefits of your reflexology session. Please read this advice before your first reflexology appointment and revisit after any follow up sessions.

Reflexology is a gentle and restorative holistic therapy which can have ripple effects on a physical and emotional level. Following a reflexology treatment a healing response can sometimes be experienced which can include feelings of tiredness, changes in mood or slight dizziness. Some of the symptoms you are currently managing may also be brought to the surface. Physical symptoms may include temporary aches, a slight headache or increased frequency of urination. These are normal signs that the body has responded to the treatment and they should pass within 24 to 48 hours of your treatment.

Recommended aftercare steps

Taking the following suggested steps up to 48 hours after your reflexology appointment can help to support your body as it responds to the reflexology:

  • Drink water - sufficient hydration aids in flushing any cellular/metabolic waste, reducing the likelihood of feeling fatigued or experiencing mild detox symptoms. Aim to drink several glasses of water throughout the day following your treatment.

  • Rest and relaxation post-session - reflexology can have a profoundly relaxing effect on the body and mind, so activities like heavy lifting, intense exercise, or high-stress engagements should ideally be avoided immediately after your treatment. Planning time for rest after your treatment can be very helpful.

  • Refrain from (or reduce) caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine after your treatment as these can interfere with the body’s detoxification processes.  Avoiding these stimulants can help prolong the benefits of a reflexology session.

  • Support digestion - ideally have a lighter meal initially with a good balance of fresh vegetables and fruits to support digestion.

Supporting your mind and body

If breathwork or meditation is already in your practice, this can help with the release of any tension that a reflexology session may have brought to the surface. I can also support you with simple breathwork and mindfulness practices as part of your reflexology aftercare.

Follow up sessions

Take note of any subtle changes in pain levels, flexibility or energy levels or other areas of improvement or discomfort in your body, as this information can be valuable for tailoring future treatments.

If you are managing a chronic or persistent issue or high levels of stress follow up sessions are recommended depending on your individual needs and goals, for example stress management, pain relief, support with specific health conditions or regular self-care.
